The Dental Implant Process

1. Initial complimentary consultation to develop a bespoke treatment plan tailored to your individual dental needs and which takes into account any concerns you have.

2. Extraction Of The Tooth and Interim Replacement Prosthesis, If Required.
Also, during the consultation, we will discuss with you the need for any interim prosthesis such as a denture or minimal fixed bridge to be placed in the implant space while the treatment is ongoing. This is usually done in cases where cosmetic concerns are noted. In most cases, if the natural tooth needs removal, the interim prosthesis will be fitted on the same day so that you do not have to go without a tooth.

3. Dental Implant Placement
This is a relatively simple sterile procedure. If extraction of the natural tooth is carried out, most implants are placed after about 6-8 weeks of healing. In some cases, this may be sooner or may even be done on the same day that the natural tooth is removed [called 'Immediate Implant Placement']. The safest way to place implants is under local anaesthetic and this is our preferred method. In some instances, we can offer oral sedation to accompany the local anaesthesia. During implant placement, any required additional grafting is also performed.

4. Healing Period
Osseo integration is the close association of your bone to the titanium surface of the implant. This is the crucial phase and may take 6 weeks to 6 months. Average times are about 3 months. During this phase, your bone heals around the implant and 'fixes' it in the bone. Careful hygiene procedures are maintained during this time.

5. Impressions and Final Phase
After successful healing, we finalise the impressions and make the final restorations for your implant. On average this takes 2-3 weeks. We also work in close collaboration with our technicians so that we can attain the optimal cosmetic and functional form for your restorations. On occasion, we will also make arrangements for you to see our technical team while they make your restorations.

6. Maintenance and Review
Over time, we will have to maintain your implant and the restoration. We shall show you how to take care of the new teeth and also make follow up appointments to monitor the dental implants function and performance.
